SILVICULTURE
We provide silvicultural services for actively managed forests, including: tree planting, brushing (manual cleaning), browse control, herbicide application, spacing & juvenile thinning, pruning and even seed collecting. Our silvicultural services aim to influence forest growth, composition and structure, for the purpose of optimizing certain values – e.g., timber production, wildlife habitat, long-term forest resilience, and more.
Tree Planting
We offer hand planting services for silviculture reforestation and restoration projects. Our workers are expertly trained on how to properly plant both bareroot and container coniferous and hardwood trees, in forested landscapes.
Brushing (Manual Cleaning)
Brushing, also referred to as manual cleaning or clearing, is the practice of controlling unwanted vegetation to release desirable trees from competition. We operate with equipment designed for all types of vegetation including woody shrubs and trees.
Browse Control
We source and install tree guards to protect the development of young trees and seedlings from wildlife browse.
Herbicide Application
We utilize backpack sprayers, mist-blowers and mounted equipment to perform broadcast foliar, targeted foliar and basal bark applications, for the purpose of controlling competing vegetation as well as invasive plant species.
Spacing & Juvenile Thinning
We use a combination of brush saws and chainsaws to selectively release preferred tree species, by removing undesired vegetation. This practice promotes and enhances growth of the remaining trees.
Pruning
We selectively remove parts of the tree to encourage vertical growth, overall tree quality, as well as reduce the risk, or spread of disease.
Seed Collecting
As certified seed collectors in Ontario we can support local nurseries and forestry initiatives by collecting high quality seeds from various seed zones, in order to ensure the long-term availability of critical and diverse native tree and shrub species in our province.
